At the New York Public Library I was product designer on the design system. I owned everything in the end-to-end design, including: design of the components, UX of the components in applications, the code of the components engineers used, the evangelization of the system, the onboarding to the system, and the follow-up on its adoption. To make a functioning design system I did all sorts of things, not limited to what I’ve listed below, but I am most proud of having spent time mentoring and empowering other designers and engineers on the Digital team to contribute to its development.
Designed components
Identified new components
Worked on the UX of both components and application designs, creating important feedback loops
Overhauled the Figma library
Ran a major refactor of the React library
Coded React components
Built out a documentation backend
Modified a Wordpress documentation site front-end
Developed and tracked KPIs
Evangelized the system internally
Built roadmaps
Created and ran a formal internal working group
Set up communication pipelines
Created both a formal internal working group and an informal external working group
Provided feedback on other engineers’ architecture docs
Mentored designers and developers in the design system
Some of the largest projects I headed in my time there are below:
Why do these pages look different from the rest of my site?
I’m actually working on a pretty major redesign. It’s Remix.run + Notion and I’m really excited for it being more dynamic than my current site. If you want to follow along, check out my Github.
